Housing

Housing is the determining factor for our quality of life. People need access to affordable housing in our beautifull city of Auburn. Currently, an average home for sale in Auburn is running people upwards of 659,000! I dont know about you but that seems unafforable for most young couples, new families, or even estbalished families. The people who are buying houses are wealthier people from the Bay area looking for vacation homes. Not homes to build and raise a family. Prices for rent has been skyrocketing and our State has done nothing about it. Auburnites need access to afforable, safe housing in our community. Our city used to have grant programs that would help first time buyers with their down payments. However, the city did not manage these funds well enough and the program went bankcrupt. I am running to reinstill this program so we can attract young famillies and people who want to start their life in Auburn.

Public Safety

Crime has been a hot topic for the city council when looking at how to keep our city safe. When thinking about how to protect Auburn I go straight to the source. I have been working with the Chief of Police on his Advisory council looking at how to build the best relationships with our community and the police.

Fire is also another issue very close to my heart. There has been multiple summers that my family has faced evacuation. Every time the same thoughts run through my head. Is my family safe and how can we fix this detrimental problem? One thing we never think of is when our house actually does burn down? How do we rebuild after such a tragedy? Well if you aren't insured you wont be able to rebuild with help. My family has almost lost fire insurance because neighbors don't agree to cut down a defensible area. The city should be making these defensible spaces around our community and hep those that are following these CalFire recommendations. Working with Cal Fire, our fire department, and the Fire Safety Council is going to lead our successful efforts to protect our community. I am proud to say I have friends in each level of these response teams and I have an ear to the Fire Safety Council for coming up with ways to protect our community.

Veterans

You can thank a Veteran for the freedoms we are so very accustomed to every day. The freedom to go to school, the freedom to vote, and the freedom of choice. Our veterans are facing rising cost for living on pensions the government has not increased for cost of living. 1 in every 4 veterans faces homelessness sometime in their life and 1 out of every 10 homeless people are veterans. How we deal with health care and housing affect our veteran population immensely. As a city council member, I will fight to recognize our Veterans in everything they do. The National Coalition for Homeless Veterans stresses the need for housing, nutrition, physical and mental healthcare and job services for homeless and at-risk veterans. The coalition reports that community-based programs with veterans serving veterans saw the greatest success rate.. As a council member, I will help ideniitfy these services in our community and start getting our Vets off the streets.  To use these funds we need to survey our homless population, see how many need wrap around services, access to housing, and healthcare. Working with the Chief of Policie's Advisory Council we can do these surveys and apply for grant funding to help get Veterans back into our community.

Education

Our schools are the pathway for our future. We need to have a robust learning environment for our children to thrive in. Schools in our district are over budget and this is hurting our teacher retention. So far E.V Cain has seen 3 new Principals in the matter of a couple years. We are losing teachers in our district to Lincoln and Roseville. Our schools are hurting. So much so that we are going to be shutting down an elementary school in district and converting the rest into K-8th grade. What will we do with E.V Cain? What will we do to help our children thrive? How can our children compete in higher education without a good foundation? I am fighting to rebuild our region and retain good teachers. As a labor leader, I will work with our teachers unions to support them in their endeavors to help keep children ahead of the curve in our 21st century economy.

Energy

Rolling blackouts in our region are affecting everyone from our small businesses to our preschools. We need to be working toward energy independence with every step of our strategic plan. As a city council member, I will be fighting to secure safe and reliable energy for our community and all throughout fire season. We can work with PCWA and start collecting energy from the American River, a pride and joy of the Auburn community. We can be using the Build Back Better grant funding to build micro-grids for our hospitals and fire stations. So when black outs hit Auburn we are still safe in our community.

Parks

Auburn is the Endurance Capitol of the World. We boast some of the States most pristine trails and parks for people to walk, hike, and explore. One of the reason people stop in Auburn before going to Tahoe is to explore our community. I would love to work with the Parks and Recs team to protect our community assets and to clean up the trails so Auburn can continue being a shining joy in the world of nature.

Economic Stabilty

Throughout my career I have workrd in Finance. From working with Speaker Nancy Pelosi to working in the non-profit sector, I have always taken on the job of balancing the budget. How can our community be economically stable if we are losing access to important grants that are funding our community work. We lost the grants for new housing developements, we are closing down schools, our community is hurting. We have not had a balanced budget in decades. I will activley work to garner new reveune streams from grant funding to energy development. We need economic stability to grow our community!

Airport

Besides the American River the Auburn airport is the city's pride and joy. We can be working to develop better working relationships with all commercial and noncommercial pilots in the community. We can develop new revenue streams by rebuild our airport and bringing in innovative ideas on how to make Auburn the mid stop between the mountains and the city. The Biden Administration has set aside 500 million dollars to renovate our county's airports, Auburn must be on that list!

Universal Basic Income

Poverty is abhorrent. Growing up I listened to my parents conversations about how they were going to pay the bills. It became a running joke that were just going to eat beans and rice because that is inexpensive. No child should have to worry were their next meals comes from or how to pay for their school supplies. No working parent should have to have those conversations with their children. When it came to college I thought it was unattainable. I had to work 3 jobs to pay my bill and start saving for college. I believe every person should have access to a free market and every person deserves $200 when they pass go. We pay half of our paychecks to taxes. We deserve to have the government support us in the work we are doing. James Madison made it understood that if you want a safe society you either take away all freedoms and look like communist t countries or you can give people access to an equal income. I believe in our founders father and our free market. Every person deserves to be paid a living wage if they are American citizens. This will uplift our local business, our local communities, and our working parents.
